DON'T   This fills the frame nicely but is backlit in bright sunlight, which creates harsh shadows.
DON'T  Bright sunlight creates dappled light under a tree, which makes it difficult to see what’s going on in this photo.
DON'T DO
A bright background makes it hard to see the taller plant in the photo on the left. With less direct light, on the right, the taller plant really stands out.
DO   Since the background is in the distance and out of focus, it's a nice backdrop. There are no competing lines from bricks or siding, no foliage that makes it hard to see what's there—it's all about the container.
DO   Because of the colorful foliage, this bright container works well right in the garden. Simple, plain green foliage sets off the chartreuse container and colorful foliage.
