The deep orange blossoms of 'Mighty Chestnut' daylily are marked with a rich burgundy eye and sunshine-yellow throat. Ruffled flowers are lightly fragrant and can be more than 5 inches across. The color contrasts beautifully with a dark background, such as a wooden fence, an evergreen hedge or a ceramic urn.
While this cultivar only blooms once a summer, ‘Mighty Chestnut’ boasts a
high bud count, so you’ll get several weeks of successive flowers. Blossoms
can last for up to 16 hours, longer than the typical daylily.
Deadheading daylilies
Snap off withered flowers each day so new buds that open from the same cluster will look fresh. Once all the blooms are spent, deadhead them by cutting the stalk off at the base of the plant.

Tips for growing ‘Mighty Chestnut’ daylily
If the glorious flowers didn’t inspire you to plant ‘Mighty Chestnut’ daylily, its easy care should. Strappy foliage forms robust clumps in full sun to part shade. Apply a granular, general-purpose fertilizer in early spring to give it a boost, especially if it's growing in lean soils. This daylily can tolerate dry conditions, but a layer of mulch and extra water during hot, dry spells helps prevent leaves from turning yellow and dying back. In late fall, the foliage will die down and is easily raked off in late winter or early spring in time for new growth to emerge.
When to divide daylilies
‘Mighty Chestnut’ daylily should be divided every three to five years; if it becomes overcrowded it will have fewer flowers. In fall or early spring, lift the plant and separate the roots into several clumps with at least three fans of leaves. Replant divisions at the same depth, spacing plants about 12 to 15 inches apart to give them plenty of room. You’ll be mighty glad to have more of this gorgeous daylily!
